On a recent trip to Niagara Falls, Ontario, my wife and I found ourselves strolling through one of the smaller, more touristy LCBOs. With so many fine vintners in southern Ontario, we were surprised to see such limited local representation. After trying several duds and passing on the ice wine, we stumbled upon a 2007 Thorn-Clarke’s Shotfire Quartage. Wow …we got lucky.

The Shotfire Quartage is blend if Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot. This wine has an amazing nose. It is deep colored, rich, chewy, well-balanced, very smooth, and has a long finish.

2007 Shotfire Quartage: rated 92 points by Robert Parker, and is under $20 if you can find it.

Our view while enjoying the Quartage.
